What We Provide
Through the most advanced assisted techniques, we help bring families to life with unmatched success rates.
In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) is an Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) procedure used to treat various fertility issues. During IVF, a doctor will surgically retrieve eggs from a woman’s ovaries and then fertilise the collected eggs with sperm in the embryology laboratory. Once fertilised, the embryos are transferred into the woman’s womb to implant and develop into a pregnancy. IVF treatment can be carried out using the patient’s own eggs and sperm or with donor eggs or donor sperm.
IVF is typically considered if you or your partner have certain medical conditions affecting fertility. These include:
It is important to understand the various steps involved so that you are better prepared as you progress through an IVF cycle.
1. Ovarian Stimulation and Monitoring:
In a natural cycle, a single egg is released from the ovary each month. However, to increase the chances of successful fertilisation with each IVF attempt, your ovaries will be stimulated to produce multiple mature egg follicles. The growth and development of these eggs are closely monitored through repeated ultrasound scans and/or blood tests. Using the information from these tests, we can determine the timing of ovulation. Final maturation of the eggs is then triggered by an injection of either HCG or Buserelin, depending on your response. Following this, you will be ready for egg collection.
2. Egg and Sperm Collection:
Egg collection is carried out at our clinic via a transvaginal procedure under conscious sedation and local anaesthetic. The doctor uses ultrasound guidance to locate the follicles and retrieve the eggs accurately. A semen sample is provided a few hours before egg collection and is processed in the laboratory to improve the chances of fertilisation.
3. Incubation and Fertilisation
The processed sperm is injected into the egg, and the resulting embryos are placed in a specially designed laboratory incubator that maintains body temperature conditions. Fertilization is typically expected to occur within 48 hours. The embryo is then allowed to grow and develop over a period of three to five days
4. Egg and Sperm Collection:
Embryo transfer is the procedure by which the embryo is returned to the womb. It is a simple and painless process. The embryos are loaded into a special catheter and gently transferred into the uterus. Following the procedure, you will be prescribed a progesterone hormone (administered as a vaginal suppository), which should be used daily for two weeks to support implantation and early pregnancy.
